Time our biggest enemy
“Time management” when I hear these terms together I think of all the time I have wasted in the past. Because I just kind of go with the flow I tend to get distracted easy and waste a lot of time.
Managing our time wisely is a very hard thing to do. Even people that seemingly have this under control hit the wall from time to time. I have had a few productive days where I managed my time well. Although I didn’t always keep with it I know what works for me, keeping with it is a whole another problem for a different post. To follow is a list of some of the methods that worked well for me.
Keep a To-do list: This is the most basic form of time management. All you need is pen and a notepad to get started. An advantage of doing this is that you see progress as you take things off the list. Encouraging you to move to the next task.
Always use something to track your time. If you can’t track what you been doing or what you should do next there is a good chance you will waste time and do nothing. You can use anything you want to track your time software, buy a planner or what I did. I turned my Moleskine Volant into a small planner that will fit perfectly into my pocket. There is a good post on doing this here.
Allocate your time in blocks. Micro managing your time hour by hour can be tedious. It can also cause you to rush through projects. I always try to allocate my time in blocks. Each block being a couple hours or just over estimating how long I think a project might take to complete.
I know this is a short list but it doesn’t take a lot of change to produce a lot of change.
As a society we waste a lot of time. To get a prospective on this, check this post out from Dan Miller. If that post is true think of how more productive we could be by making a change. After all if you want a different outcome you will have to do something differently.
Until next time….. God Bless!!
